Hello Jan & Gerhard!

Regarding Jan's question: There is no secret really, my QTH is not noise free by
any means. For example 160m is useless for SSB signals much below S7 while 600m
is way better but far from ideal. Daytime MF reception is poor but the
nighttime rise in both QRN and signal strength tends to even out the odds, ie.
typical suburban conditions.

I think the "secret" is simply as you suggest, the abscence of really strong
in-band signals although DI2AM is still a good signal. I haven't played with
disabled AGC and RF (IF) gain on 505.1kHz WSPR but should probably do so
because I visually note many missed decodes.

I'm using an ICOM IC-R75 and a 4x4x4m tuned & amplified delta-loop pointing
approximately towards England, hence covering most of the European sector of
interest while reducing local noise slightly.
