Hi Stefan you have just sen the effect of a solar flare (fairly mild one) giving daytime enhancement. The radiation strongly ionises the region of the D-layer below the "reflection height" that normally absorbs the waves. hence incresed level but only for the period the flre intensite is above a certain threshold. Today's was a particulalry long one (maybe an overlapping double) attachment courtesy of NOAA.
