Use a programmable divider for more obscure division ratios.
September's RadCom has a generic design for 74HC161 type

CB crystals.... thanks Rik (and others). This does sound like a sensible and low cost approach.

Roger,

an easy (and cheap way) might be CB crystals. Most are 3rd overtone in the range of 26965-27405kHz (= 8988-9135kHz xtal frequency). Divided by 1024 (eg. using a 74HC4060 as oscillator / divider) you get 8777-8921Hz.

Onderwerp: LF: Simple, low cost, 8.970kHz stable source?

What do people think is the simplest, lowest cost, way of generating a stable 8.970kHz frequency that does not require a PC when running? I thought of an HF crystal divided down by 256 (from 2.296320MHz), but have you tried to buy a "made to order" crystal lately?
