Hi Scott,

you may be doing a little better than you think: The 600 m^2 loop above ground should have a radiation resistance
 Rrad = 62299 ohm * 600^2 / 2200^4 = 0.96 milliohm.
Fed by 30 A, this would give 0.86 W radiated power (EMRP), or 1.6 W ERP in the main lobe.

Based on monitoring of the former American Loran-C chains http://www.alice-dsl.net/df6nm/LoranView/LoranView.htm , I would say that the path between the Canadian West coast and Europe is one of the most difficult ones. Port Hardy and Middletown had only very rare appearances during midwinter, whereas Alaska (especially Port Clarence) traces were often visible around the day.

73 and best of luck,
Markus

Hi Stefan

Troubles with the tuner at 1.1KW as one of the caps got too warm for comfort. At 1.1KW, 30A into 600m^2 loop. Presently running 400W with 18A.

I'll need to wait for the rest of the G3 micas to get here for QRO.

73 Scott

PS - If anyone has some G3 Mica caps for sale please contact me off list. TU
