Ok Malcolm,
That looks a good set up , I used 20 watts last
year for all the data 'experiments' cheating a little with a Racal MA1723
exciter driving a 24v dc class A inter-stage drive amplifier , yes it did need a
fan ! and the RA6790GM , not quite home brew, but after prolonged
introduction to the MA1723 in fault mode, im not sure where the dividing line is
( potted history http://groups.google.com/group/uk500khz/web/the-ma1723-liniarity-at-a-price )
You may find the 'FLDIGI' software is worth a look,
as it has narrow band versions of the mfsk modes that will pass via non linear
(amplitude) systems and the simultaneous multi tone modes , olivia for
example. With the long qsb outages on 500 , this software also had an add on,
giving a arq function to 'all' the modes, which may enable communications
at extended range , out of all the systems, (apart from the K1JT enhanced
processing modes) I found the narrow version of olivia gave the best 'extended'
copy at range . download link > http://www.w1hkj.com/Fldigi.html
Good luck,
Hopefully 'back soon' as it says on the
door !

Subject: Re: LF: PSK31 on 500kHz?
Hi Graham.
I use an Icom 7400 in duplex (TX
3501-3504 kHz, RX 501-504 kHz). The transmit chain is via a home brew
'analogue' downconverter and a rebuilt ENI 320L 20 watt linear, so hope to put
out a nice clean PSK. Software, Ham Radio deLuxe/DM780.
Please let me know when you are ready to
have a go.
Many thanks
Malcolm

Hi Mal,
Well when i finally re instate the 'mf'
room , should be back on 'soon , I think there is fsk rtty still
about,
what system are you running on 500, assume its
linear ?

Hello folks - just rejoined the LF
reflector.
Is there anybody out there using PSK31 on
500 kHz and if so, what is your usual frequency/time of
operating? I should be QRV using this mode within the next couple of
days.
My QTH is in West Sussex and I've already
had day time CW QSOs up 100 km in spite of a very poor antenna system, but
plans are in hand to improve efficiency.
