I've not got an axe to grind re
RadCom, but is the lack of major construction projects in
RadCom more to do with there being less people doing the larger
scale design/construction projects as well as being motivated to write
it up for RadCom? Maybe it's also related to SMD and the increasing demise
of discrete components that makes some potential authors feel that replication
of designs will be more difficult and lead to a lot of subsequent
correspondence.
I have a feeling that
many of the innovative designers are currently quite involved with projects
such as the satellites/microwaves, with which David will be more familiar
than I, and with with hardware/software projects. With well
supported Internet reflectors RadCom may not be see by those involved in
these types of development as the ideal platform with which to publish their
work.
What I would like to see, and
be prepared to support, is for those who have done some interesting
construction or experimentation on 500kHz write it up for RadCom. Whilst
we are preparing for Agenda Item 1.23 at WRC-11 we need to raise awareness
not only within the UK, but also with other National Societies, of the work and
results that have been obtained on 500kHz. Maintaining the 500kHz proposal
on the agenda for the conference is not a certainty, so good quality
publications relating to 500kHz experiments and operating in RadCom, QEX,
CQ DL & CQ-QSO, etc, ought to be a priority.
