But on 500kHz the horizontal pattern is almost omnidirectional and

Or does MMANA not work properly ?

If you accept the commonly held definition that a long wire should be at least a wavelength long at the desired frequency that implies that at 500 KHz it should be 600 metres, which is approximately 1960 feet.
 
On that basis 1200 feet is going to be a bit short to be strictly considered a "long wire" on 500 KHz, but I certainly wouldn't mind having that much room to play with:-)
