Your static was obviously why you wre having difficulty trying to QSO
G3UNT Mike. I was listening at the time, both excellent 589ish
signals and way above my noise level and I heard you both repeatedly
call each other. At one time I heard Brian give you (if I remember)
something like 439.

What I find strange is how I clearly copy stations far better than
many other people. Maybe it is my vertical, with no horizontal top
section, and it picks up less local QRN and more signals, or maybe it
is down to the Datong UC1 and the K2 it is feeding. Be what it may,
most people are absolutely clear copy (though GI3PDN was somewhat
weaker last night in the short time I heard Ray). But I was really
struggling to hear some of the 80m stations on the other side of the
QSOs, wierd....

So my only problem is that most people can't hear me! But that is
down to the sand below the lawn and the corresponding astronomic
earth resistance. Only thing I can do there is to move!

As to the legality of crossband, we are quite definitely normal
amateur stations (with special permit to allow us to transmit on
500k). I see no problem with other countries working us crossband,
just like we used to do years ago between 6m and 10m before we got
that band.
