Hi Dave, - This is my second atempt to send this message, - For some reason the PC sent the first attempt before I had finished it!

Thanks for the QSO on the 600m band - it was my second QSO on 500kHz since receiving the NOV on Thursday, my first being on Saturday AM with Mal, G3KEV up in Scarborough. You were a strong "paint" when you were calling on QRSS when I called you - equivalent to around RST569/579 with some evidence of QSB. I had been listening to Dave G3YXM beaconing and moved HF about 500hz to avoid him when I called you and at the same time hopefully avoiding anybody replying QRSS directly on your frequiecy. You were a good 10dB stronger than Dave G3YXM but quite a bit closer as you say. I could hear Dave on the side when I opened up the RX pass band but I was using the 500hz filter in the FT1000MP plus DSP so he was not causing me any problems,

My crank-up 60ft Versatower is out of action due to a problem with the luffing wire and is lying horizontal so I am currently using a temporary antenna consisting of long wire about 130ft long sloping gradually up from the feed point only 6ft above ground at the house end to 45ft at the far end of the garden. I am using 10W TX RF power output but probably less than 20mW ERP due to the poor antenna I am resonating the antenna with a variometer with a tapped matching auto-transformer in series to ground to provide a match to 50ohms. The 503kHz TX drive is derived from a 5.030Mhz output from the FT1000MP running in split frquency mode going via a 10 to 1 digital divider and bandpass filter to drive a 10W drive amplifier canibalised from a commercial ENI inc. high power wide band amplifier made for anechoic chamber testing. At the TX output is a 7 element elliptical low pass filter to suppress medium wave harmonics at 1.0Mhz and 1,5Mhz. Thanks for your offer of copy of the screenshot of my signal - I am about to write a piece for our local Club newsletter on the new 500kHz band so it would be nice to have an example for the article.

Thanks for standing by for 10 minutes while I had to go and do a bit of
family taxi-driving! I missed some of your transmissions because you were
co-channel with Dave G3YXM who is in beacon mode also on 503.0 kHz...and my
CW is a bit rusty too!

You were a good signal in the clear on 502.2 when you called Dave a little
later on.

I estimate your signal to be about 3db stronger than G3YXM, but I guess you are quite a bit nearer to me. I can send you a "Spectran" screenshot if you
are interested.

I'm running 10W to a 20m "Tee" at 5m high, which gives an estimated erp or less than 50mW, given that the antenna is rather poor. My RX setup is a 500
kHz preamp into an ICOM IC-PR1000, which has quite a wide passband, and
isn't really suited to CW.
