never seen such items in single rx RF stages. Not enough gain.
My line up as a VS2 in the darkest jungle was a
string of 807 doublers /drivers to an 813 glowing in the dusk like a lighthouse
attracting every variety of flying insect including flying stag beetles
several inches long which made the mistake of flying near the tank
coil.
I have no idea why the type-face has changed
herein.

During the 1950 period and beyond the 807 tube
was the norm for wideband/distribution amplifiers used on receiving stations.
The 6V6, 6L6 and 807 were also used in a variety of other ancillary equipment.
This was overkill in most cases but I suppose these tubes were plentiful and
cheap at the time. The equipment was desgined and built around these tubes.
One other tube popular at the time was the 813 for transmitters like the RCA
ET4336 TX but to mention one.
The advantage of this trend was that tubes were
interchangeable between equipment units.
There were also 12 v versions of the above tubes,
again popular in mobile and aeronautical equipment like the Collins and Bendex
transmitters.
