Hello Bryan,
maybe it's fancy to blame the EU for anything that goes wrong but ... these
things happen all over the world.
I know countries where :
- Restaurants serve lukewarm coffee to avoid being sued by idiots who pour
hot coffee over themselves and get burned
- When you buy a microwave oven it comes with a warning that it is not
suitable to dry wet pets
- Youngsters can buy guns at the age of 16 but are not allowed to drink
alcohol (in public) up to the age of 21
- A friend received a message from the local post office that he had to go
there and receive an item that was not suitable to put in his mailbox. The
"corpus delicti" turned out to be a postcard with the famous Brussels
statue "manneken-pis" ( http://www.manneken-pis.com/ ) on the front. The
postman refused to deliver it because it was "indecent".
- A mother was fined by the police because she let her 2 year old daughter
play on a public beach in "monokini". The police was warned by another
mother of a 2 year old boy who was afraid that her son would get bad
thoughts seeing the 2 year old girl "topless".
- and so on ...
These countries are certainly not part of the EU.
