Hi Laurence,
We could see the aurora in Minnesota last night. Pretty vertical rods of
light dancing around. No color though. Haven't seen colors in a few years.
I'll have a look tonight and see if the light gods are a blazing once again.
Maybe I should pull out the Natural radio receiver and have a listen to the
chorus.

Subject: LF: TS870 .v. 850 Round 1 - Day 1
For those looking at the web site I apologize for all the squiggles at
0630Z 1 April - I was doing a rough "lets just see what this Ebay 850 can
do in comparison with my "baby". Well....if its true lets delve into the
noise and see what signals I can see, the 850 has it (tara~!) The 850
without the high stab osc is taking about 1 hour to settle down and I
havent "zero'd" Argo in yet but if Loran lines are a subjective signal s/n
test then what is just "seeable" as a weak Loran line is pretty bright with
the 850 Yep I checked it is the same Loran line!). Now I know it takes only
a few dBs to go from a dull to bright trace but the important thing is
that what fades in and out on the 870 is always there on the 850 - this
would confirm my/Albertos and half the worlds thoughts on the 850 - its a
pretty decent LF receiver. Also Ive got the AGC off, AIP off and NB1 on and
I cant hear Loran....static crashes however are audible which they aren't
on the 870 (870's NB may be better at this sort of thing as the 850 isn't
renowned for its NB)...
On the lower freqs around 70K I need the AIP in otherwise I get some left
wing liberal talking about the war from my 4 local MF 100Kw Medium wave
stations just a couple miles up the road. Loran is audible down here.
Sensitivity is much better down here too and JJY on 40KHz is a good sig.
Its like getting an old friend back - I had to sell my 850 way back and
mourned the day....Im smiling again. It will be the receiver of choice once
Ive figured how to X patch everything. With all this SFU's and 2MEV's,
DCF39 has dissapeared....Nice Viz Aurora tonight....Laurence KL1X Anchorage
