Mike,

I bought "Commercial" brand fluorescents for the whole house and I didn't notice any huge LF noise increase. They are not any louder on the natural Radio receiver either. You guys must have a different ballast scheme or something different than ours.

I think this is the new type of small fluorescent bulb assembly that has a
std screw-in base. There's a switching power supply in the base that puts
out harmonics causing some degree of interference. I haven't found the level
to be that objectionable, however. Bill A

I just replaced one of the bulbs in My radio room with a GE lamp
looks like a curled up florescent , Screws into a normal lamp socket
and doesnt appear to make noise. 20 Watts produce 75 watts of lighting
I will know better when the normal background
noise quiets down later but for now it looks OK

Apparently in new houses or conversions you now have to put a
number of CF fittings (low energy) in place that will only take CF
