One more thing to mention :

RA9MB's formula L = D*N^2 becomes a very very simple L = D for a single
turn loop (L = inductance in uH, D = loop diameter in m, N = turns).
Although it cannot be used for the really large transmitting loops it a
good 'first guess' for the common RX loops (diameter 0.5m .. 2m). The formula couldn't be easier and gives a reasonable idea about the
inductance (+/- few 10%).
It doesn't have to be advanced math all the time :-)
