My apologies for the off topic enquiry. I'm considering buying a butane powered soldering iron for use on antennas in the garden and fields. I'd be grateful for any recommendations or other comments,

Tracey, I use a small butane powered blow torch when soldering antenna wires outdoors, heating the solder joint directly with the flame. Works great! 73 Johan SM6LKM --

Hi Tracey, My advice is get the most powerful one you can find. Soldering outside is much more difficult than in the shack due to lower ambient and greater heat losses. Also a box to act as a windshi

Maybe me being picky Johan but I try not to use flames when soldering due to carbonising the flux resins. May not be important in these modern times but was always taught to avoid contaminating solde
