an antique NE529 (in the *switching mode linear* as described on my website). I only used it because it was in the junk box, but would not recommend them for a new design if you had to order parts. The three supply voltages are a plague, especially the negative 'analog' supply. Use a modern rail-to-rail comparator with a few nanoseconds,  for example LT1016.

If I was to build such a PA again, I would now use a simple linear regulator instead of the switching-mode DC modulator, since *most* of the time the output amplitude is near 'full power' anyway.
Or use a dsPIC to provide the control signals for the RF driver and the modulator instead of the 'mass grave' of digital gates.
