Hi Mal,
Depends what you want to do , the VK transvertor , looks ok, at $180
Aus , + import tax , built and tested . but its going to put you 'on
frequency' which if you have a class e/d amp , with same channel fets
,, both P or both N , then you will need the drive to be x2 the
Ae frequency ... [With P + N you can drive at the Ae frequency ] ..
basically .. No can do , even if the translation oscillator is set to
give say 954 KHz out [hacked] Any data mode , would have its
modulation 'spreading' pattern reduced by 'half' due to the divide by
2 in the logic drive chain ..
Its possible to mess about with x2 harmonic amplifier in the drive
chain .. but its far from ideal .. and you have lost the linearity ..back
to a leggo station
73-G,
The U3 is basically a numerically controlled master oscillator
The control logic has various modes embodied , so you can
set it to Tx on a fixed pattern qrss / cw ,/ opera ,/ wspr , as a beacon
The RF frequency can be set , so could be 136 or 272 477 or 954
etc so if your driving a class e/d amp, that means you can enter the
drive chain at a higher [multiple] frequency ..
Ea5DOM is using one to send wspr-2 op8 op32 complete with carrier qrg
shifts at the moment ,
UA3ASB is using one as a band hopping HF beacon with 1 watt

Looks like I will have to build one
Looking for a good design
What is a U3 ?

If Ros puts the MF mode back, then, yes a good idea , otherwise ,
otherwise , all you need to send CW, RTTY and Opera is a divide
by 4 [ OR 2 + Class e/d Pa] , from Top-band and a U3 for wspr ....
psk is linear , so that needs a linear pa , which are few and far
between on 477 , same go's for olivia , that needs a linear Tx/Rx path
..at the moment mfsk is about as good as it gets ..
Or just a U3 if beacons' are your thing ...

Hi MF
Mal. May be worth to have a look to the design by VK3XDK

Looks a nice device Mal, but ...
, DC > 300 MHz
I don't see the full spec , gives me the impression it compliments
the
wide band tx/rx
which tops out at $1500
There was a good tx/rx single board sdr demonstrated at the rsgb
convention , uk made , the cut down version was round £200 ..
have to
go back over the events list to pin the name down

MF
Does anyone use the Nuand TVerter
If so is it any good?
