Sure. Good observation
No auroral handicap here under 40º north
We will test that over the coming winter season to get a clear idea

May be I'll have to run >70w to "equalize"  ;-)

Regarding the "pond crossings," remember that you (lat. 38.6d) are farther 
south than some of your European competition. DK7FC is at lat. 
49.4d, and G8HUH at 51.3d, for example. With the continued auroral activity 
(and more expected), this gives you an advantage over the more northerly 
stations. When the incoming solar activity slows down, things will equalize.
