These phenomenon were quite common in the pre-GMDSS era.
it was quite "normal" to hear SanFrancisco coaststations in the ZL and VK area (and vice-versa) when these conditions occur.

Same goes for EU <> Brasil (no MF active their now) this area was bounded very sharply and could last for hours.
BR area is QRN 5+.  (Flashovers in the radio room!)
Local tfc was cleared via 4MHz and MF was not useable there.

Another  EU-mid <> Pacific. Marshall Island Micronesia  area.
Red Sea to VK
SFO <> Hawaii
Sigs were very strong, and were able to activate the AutoAlarm. :-(
