Hi Bob,

it's not the coil, it's the "insulators" at the end of the topload wires. In my case not old toothbrushes, but clear plastic sleeves from used-up ballpoint pens. They can arc over when wet, melting the perlon guy line, and leaving the wire dangling from the top of the fishing rod.

Do you have to go QRT when it rains?  Maybe because you have coils
outside?  I transmit with no trouble with rain, snow and light icing
but my coils are inside.   Bob
