Markus;
I will not be home till around 0100.  However, QRSS 60 mode all setup for 74.5-I will bandchange TX to 137.776 and run the night to see what shakes-Bob

Hi Stefan, Bob, LF,

brought the antenna back up for the night, hope it will stay put.

I'm sorry about the mediocre sensitivity of the grabber in this location. The noise level seems to be constant irrespective of day or night, which is a sure indication that I'm dominated by local noise rather than band noise. The spectrum is full of 50 Hz spaced lines, with what looks like white noise inbetween.

The hardware configuration  is similar to the one which had worked best during my springtime visit in 4X: a passive wire antenna with separate earth lead, a small isolating ferrite tranformer, FiFi-SDR receiver with a simple input filter, netbook and 19V power supply grounded to protective earth. But here the antenna is lower (no trees on the island), ground connection is worse (ashes and rock), and a noisy environment. Not sure about the degree of directivity introduced by the Famara ridge, but as it is going up by 400 to 600 m ASL it may well have some effect.

If I really wanted I could probably go out into the desert, take along a couple of broomsticks to raise a wire, and record on battery for an hour or so. But then there would be no internet connection, and it could only be a single experiment of limited duration.

Bob: if you want to try despite the RX deficits mentioned above, I would recommend to use QRSS-60 or DFCW-90 in the TA slot (137775 - 137781), as it will show traces at weaker levels than WSPR-15 would decode.

Hi Markus,

Thanks for the service.
Last night i tried again but there is no chance. It appears that the DCF39 SNR is much lower than expected over that distance. Are you sure this is due to the hill on the path to DCF?
Do you think you can see the band noise / have the maximum sensitivity? I assume there could be at least 10 dB, rather 20 dB to gain. How does the diurnal wideband spectrum look there? Periodic QRM?
And do you use the same equipment as in India last year?

Just went out and noticed that the wind had taken down the antenna wire - hence the weak signals.

No signals were captured here in the Eu / TA / WSPR-15 slots last night.
http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/26404526/plot.jpg shows DCF39 and HGA22 about 10 dB down on the night before.
