Hello the list,

Some time back I made comments about my using ssb and sstv on 600m, however since  I did not give a complete picture and it is possible to draw false conclusions from what I said.
When the WE2XGR license was issued back in 2007  I requested on the application and was granted 505-515 kHz.. WE2XGR was the ONLY licensee to have access to 510-515kHz (until very recently, now WG2XJM also has privileges there). When we decided to operate ssb we chose to get on 510kHz upper sideband so as not cause QRM with other users (there were no other users above 510 !).
That said the ssb operation consists of a once a week net at 0200 UTC Monday (Sunday night here) that typically lasts 20-30 minutes. The other 10,050 minutes in a week there is no operation on ssb there or anywhere else!

My point is that WE2XGR was in the unique position of having access to spectrum that it did not share with other users so QRM is a non-issue.
Putting an ssb signal on a 7kHz wide shared band is a completely different matter.  I was concerned that my comments about using ssb on 600m could be construed as an endorsement of this mode on a small slice of spectrum which is being offered to hams, this is not in fact the case.

almost as dirty as discipline ;-)
