Hi Wolf and Colin

You may know that there is CW rag-chewing on 500 at about 9:00am local time for 1/2 to an hour long on Sunday mornings. G Stations out of Nottingham and the Mid Beds areas. Take a listen ? Probably not a good time for DL. I think Wolf's suggestion is a very good one like calling on the hour for 5 minutes that way we have a better chance of a casual QSO than random calling.
At Sun down onwards there is quite a lot of CW (human ops) on 472.5+/- just LF of the "BIA" NDB Lower side band. If you can hear the NDB you will hear the DL ops at about the same strength. The beacon is annoying but conversely it's a good band indicator.

Hi Colin,

Don't give up on MF - be assured, there are a huge number of people which enjoy CW as well as playing with these 'new' computer modes. I'm one of them - as a developer for electronics, I am fascinated by the new possibilities, but I would never give up the good old morse.

Maybe we should agree on an 'time of increased activity' for those who cannot spend much of their time on the radio ? - Let me suggest friday and/or saturday nights, beginning at 20:00 UTC which is usually a good time for MF during the winter time, and sufficiently 'operator friendly' / 'family compatible' ;-)

All the best,
  Wolf  DL4YHF .
