Dear Daniele,

1) I recovered two unknown toroids from a TV set which included a DVD player. Apparently they were used as common > mode chokes in the middle of multi-wire flat cables connected between the TV main board and the DVD player. Could > they be of some use in LF-MF circuits?

Yes - typically EMC ferrites are fairly high permeability types that will work well in transformer applications at LF/MF. Some experimentation will be needed to determine how best to use them....

2) More OT: I have some unused FT114-43 toroids. I wonder if they could be used as a substitute of T80-2 toroids in >small (QRP) HF antenna tuners that I'm planning to build for 14 MHz.

No - 43-grade ferrite cores are not a substitute for the -2 grade iron dust material. The permeability of the iron dust material is much lower, and the losses when used as resonant inductors are much lower also.

Cheers, Jim Moritz
