You can use your normal email to join a Yahoo group. Yahoo then gives you options how you want to receive messages e.g. as normal emails, just read posts on the web or get daily digests of posts that day.  You can keep personal details well hidden should you so wish. 

In about 15 years of Yahoo group membership of around 15 different groups on a wide range of subjects it has worked flawlessly with no spam and no security issues.  

Honestly I am quite surprised by all the fuss about the move: it just works well in my experience. My recommendation is join the new group and enjoy all it has to offer. Give it a week or so and all the posts will return to on-topic LF related subjects.
