I would tend to agree , the reflector is one of
those relic's that still performs a useful
function, (bit like a avo-8) I would suggest that most of
the traffic on the ref is of a 'flash'
nature and requires nothing more than simple
delivery to those interested, if not then is
been and gone.
Perhaps standalone groups are / tend to focus
on narrow topic areas ?
I think myself and Gary could of been proud
of the google based uk500khz group, It was
well used and we had built up quite a
library of links' and articles only to become
bystanders as the facility was
systematically trashed by google ... in there
lies a warning , we did migrate most of the
information to the yahoo based uk500khz , but the
functionality is not the same as the original, possibly
with the issue of the 'new' 500 band , activity
will return, the group was formed in
2007 , yes we have all been at it a long time
!
Moderation may be too much of a wide brush,
''Sysop'' was a problem in the early days , with
coordinated membership applications , but in reality as the
user (interest) base was quite small, it was
not a show stopper. notably, the new Opera
yahoo group , now with over 500 members from
a ww pool has had very little
attention from spam or other problems , I can think of
only one 'member' that has been removed ,
Content Moderation, that's where things as
Mal points out becomes a little sticky , who is to
say who is right or wrong ? and what do
you do if you don't agree with what you read
? we often see comments ''that this has been
stopped as being off topic'' if a
topic can be so defined, then its indicating the
group is narrowly focused , which is back to a catch-22
situation.....

Subject: LF: LEAVE IT ALONE
The current LF/MF reflector is doing fine, and I suggest LEAVE IT ALONE.
For those that want to go elsewhere GO GO.
I have not yet heard a good argument in favour of a move. In fact the one
or two shouting loudest about Yahoo are seldom or NEVER heard/seen on any
of the MF/LF frequencies.
The arguments put forward by the majority of experienced operators to date
to stay with the current reflector are constructive and sensible.
I am active most days on 137 and 500 Khz mainly using CW and QRSS also
active on HF and VHF
i can always be contacted by private emails for skeds etc if ever this
reflector packs in and will not be moving to YAHOO with all the politics, red
tape and censorship and appliance operator rules
