Good that you answered the mail from a newcomer. Somehow i missed to answer him. You know, the mails coming in quiet quickly :-)
Yes, the test with DCF39 is the best test to check if calibration is < +- 1 Hz. The next test would be to look at signals concentrated arround 136.172 kHz :-) Accuracy can be checked here to at least +- 0.1 mHz :-)

It's not just the sound card that needs calibrating, have you checked that the converter is on frequency? It needs to be within 10Hz or so to give you  a chance of decoding. Listen on a carrier frequency of 138.83kHz and see if you have the carrier with regular data bursts from Germany. It should be S9 whilst the rest of the band is, hopefully, quiet. If it's not on 138.83 your cal is wrong, if it's weak your aerial needs tuning and if it's covered in noise you have real trouble!

I have Wolf and Argo , I followed the calibration instructions for the soundcard
but all I see to get is corrupt data the odd letter and lots of ?.
My  antenna is a 80 40 butternut. Can anyone point me in the right direction.
