Curiously I felt the same, afer doing a similar thing with our local club (East Kent Radio Society) around the same time.
CW is a very annoying mode and most ops call 'cq dx' endlessly, why so anti locals? And what is 'dx' anyway, maybe to a QRP station it could be just a few miles!
