Hi Steinar,

Hi Stefan,

First, I apologize for not answering before.
No problem.

My latest experiment is with an Earth dipole. I'm
using a 1-meter copper pipe in the ground as one end of the dipole. The
other is connected to water pipes in my house. The distance between them
is about 20m. As a PA I am now using a 150W power amplifier from HH
Electronic (V150-L). This has a 100volts line output (100W RMS at 1 kHz
into 100ohm). I have tested different modes; MSK01 with SpecLab, WOLF,
THROBX and PSKAM10 in Multipsk. ZL2AFP's CMSK8, and various versions of
qrss. Right now, I am sending in the qrss120 on 8970 and hoping that an
amateur friend of my about 10 km away, will receive me.

Oh it is very good to have someone in 10km distance. That is much worth!! Will he set up a TX too? Keep us informed about your progress. But 10km is not easy with such an antenna. I got 46km in DFCW-600 with a 600m (!) antenna and 250W RF at 8970 Hz.
Anyway, good luck!
What is the RX of the distant station?
Would you like to set up a RX for VLF, or the distant station, which allows to receive my signal in some weeks (if the wind likes to blow from southwest during a weekend without rain)? If you live in a reasonable location, i see no problems to get a successful reception, even in DFCW-60.
My antenna receiving systems on VLF is not the best. I use my 10X10m
loop in the garden. With this I can receive the Alphas pretty well, but
now I am building an active antenna (after your drawing). It will be
exciting to see how it will work in my neighborhood. I hope it does not
pick up too much noise.
OK, fine. Then you can receive me! :-) I should read the mails before i start to answer ;-) The loop may have advantages anyway, depending on your local situation. It is good to compare E and H field. Ah BTW, soon there is a SAQ transmission, on monday! That should be no problem at all to receive in CW!! Ask if you need further advice for setting up a RX if not done so far. This is a good chance to compare both antenna systems too! Also the world wide military MSK transmitters give good ideas about the sensitivity, not to forget the sferics as a function of daytime...
Best regards and 73

Steinar, we could do that first VLF DL-LA detection over a distance of 1149 km, http://no.nonsense.ee/qthmap/?qth=JO59JQ&from=jn49ik. I am very optimistic, a DREAMER ;-)

Also i need a kick to come on the VLF band again i must admit ;-) LF takes most of my attention since i have that fixed antenna ;-)

Best 73, fun and good luck!
