I just carried out a non scientific experiment with
a ferrite antenna and it proved to be a failure
Experiment
Wound a bundle of ferrite rods (9) with 1 mm enamel wire
and got 900 uH approx inductance. I connected this via coax to my Datong up
converter IF 144 Mhz to my normal RX. ( the datong resonated the ferrite antenna
) there was pick up and signals audible but they were down 9 S points compared
with my 40 metre vertical loop antenna.
I tried the this ferrite antenna both vertical es
horizontal in the horizontal plane it did show directional properties. It was
working but the signal capture was vy poor.
A pre amp would probably have improved the sensitivity and
maybe that is the answer but by itself it is no good.
