It's a 0.6mm enamel wire.

1mm diameter would work fine and of course reduce the losses
significantly. Just keep in mind, that the overall length of the coil
will increase with thicker wire. My coil has about 950 turns but if you
don't need so many, the 1mm would be fine.

2mm seems to be a bit of an overkill to me.
