Hi Roger this kind of antenna works best with POOR grounds ....it is rubbish on the sea shore. They depend on a reasonable skin-depth in the ground at the operating frequency, to form and underground loop ("ELF Communication Antennas" M.L.Burrows ISBN:0 906048 00 1). They work well on receive at VLF (see Marconi about 1902) because higher frequency noise is absorbed in the ground. 500k is probably getting a bit marginal unless you are on desert sand or rock. But of course and bit of conductor will act as a aerial to some extent.:-)) Alan G3NYK ----- Original Message ----- From: "James Cowburn" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, June 15, 2010 9:55 PM Subject: RE: LF: Ground electrode antenna on 500kHz RX (and TX?) > Roger > > > > What was your best range on 9khz with this and what Tx power? > > > > I might try that as I have good ground here > > > > Cheers > > > > Jim > > |
