Hi
That unobtainable Ferrite is similar to the core material in TV Line Output Transformers (LOPT). I have used these for 136kc/s PA output transformer. They are big though. They are used in PC CRT monitors as well and these things are being thrown away nowadays because of the flat screen LCD displays taking over now. I have just compared the inductance I get when I measure 50 turns on one of these LOPT cores with the calculated value of a Ferroxcube 3C90 toroid of similar size, so if that is any thing to go by an old LOPT core could be your answer.

Chaps 3C85 was superseded by 3C90 so you might have better luck finding that. Now Epcos are the suppliers I think their N87 material looks best for 136/500k. They do a 38mm toroid but I haven't found a stockist yet. Dave.

Mike, Farnell stock the 13.25mm diameter version of 3C85 as part number 178504 at 14p each, but I expect these may be too small for yoru application. Didn't see any larger onese listed. 73s Roger G3XBM

Hello LF group,
Does anyone know of a source of supply of the 58mm OD cores 3C85 (or the Phillips equivalent )--in small quantities. David G0MRF used to hold some but tells me he is out of stock.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
