Mal,

If people wish to experiment and find out for themselves how well, or indeed how badly, an amateur VLF system works then what is wrong with that? Even you must agree that it is by experimenting that we learn.

The discussion on the <9kHz subject has opened our eyes to the real possibility that at least some well equipped stations really could work over 100kms. You are probably one of the best equipped LF stations in the UK, so why don't YOU have a go below 9kHz and share your experiences with us all? I am sure many in the UK would appreciate this. What is more you would almost certainly add a few more firsts to your impressive list.

Most of those talking/dreaming about 9 kcs cannot get a signal out beyond their own back yard on 500 or 137 so it would be FOOLISH for those persons to attempt 9 kcs but DREAM ON.
Have you noticed the BIG players on LF/MF are not contermplating joining the Dreamers.

Marcus et al,

Good luck to all those experimenting below 9kHz. I intend to have a go myself shortly but running modest powers. I don't expect great DX but will be intrigued to see how far I get with a QRSS or WSPR beacon. Even a few kms will be fun.

Mal enjoys making a complete fool of himself and has few constructive comments to make about anything. Most here just ignore his inane comments and feel rather sorry for him. Psychologists would put it down to attention seeking.

Don't worry Tim. Knowing Mal's humorous way of expressing his views, we definitely see his interest in the matter as a positive encouragement.

And, best of all, it's fun.

Why is there such derision about experimentation?, I for one am looking forward to the results of these tests. I am sure that comments like this from the UK do nothing to enhance our reputation among the greater amateur community.
