That is the conclusion I came to, adjust for personal waterfall display
settings, no effect on decoding.

I believe they control the visual sensitivity and contrast of the
waterfall display, nothing more, and probably aren't important for
decoding.

Others may have more information. 

I haven't adjusted them from the default positions.
