Okay Rick on ultrasonics...Had a practical experience with that with the break up of kidney stones by ultasonics...Called here the lithotrypsey machine or name like it....they zerode.. in on my kidney stones and smashed them into smaller pieces ..i kept awake and watched the procedure a weird thing but it works well....73s  george zl3pn

ultrasonic waves are "shockwaves" (just like sound, only at higher frequency) that change the density of the medium. A complete different mechanism than electromagnetic waves.
If you add energy into the water, no matter how, it will heat and eventually boil. Nothing to be stunned about.
Ultrasonic waves have been used for ages to heat stuff. Big advantage is that the energy can be focused to one spot to get local heating.
Ultrasonic ovens It has also been proposed as "save alternative" to microwave ovens, but with little success as it turned out to be very expensive to build an oven that would withstand the vibrations.
