Hi Gary,
I use an IC706 (first model) for my 136 kHz transverter, and it works
like a charm (with the CW filter of course).
The nice thing about this radio is, all oscillators are derived from a
30 MHz master oscillator, which can easily be synchronized to the 10 MHz
OCXO. In my tranverter, this OCXO drives the transverter (10.136 MHz <->
0.136 MHz), so everything is driven from the same reference.
I didn't check if the IC706 can be modified to generate a signal at
10.503 MHz (+/-). If so, it could be used as a duoband transverter for
MF+LF, using the same mixers, only different bandpass filters in the
frontend.
