Hi,
years ago I heard the story about the wife of a ham
who had a christmas tree on the balcony. This was one of the first christmas
trees with electric light bulbs, all put in series so that when you rotate one
to turn it off all others are switched off, too.
You can imagine how surprised this woman was when
she rotated one bulb to switch off all the lights -- and suddenly some of the
lights went off, others stayed on. Well, she rotated one of the ones that were
on ... and at the other side ot the christmas tree some other bulbs started to
lit.
Well, for us hams the solution is simple: her
husband operated AM on 2 meters and by disconencting some of the light bulbs
from the series circuit a dipole antenna for 144 MHz with a different light bulb
was created. Rotating this one and disconnecting it, another dipole was created
and so forth ...
