Hi Martin, yes but the stuff I have can have as short a life as 4 years in
the sun. It does go brittle and breaks up.....what is worse in that state it
leaves loads of little "needles" of plastic under the skin if you handle it
without gloves. They dont seem to do any harm, but.......
I have some 7mm pre-stretched polyester slated MARINE yacht ropes, made by
British Ropes many years ago (1974). This is still doing sterling service as
guying on my tower after more than 30 years. It has darkened (usefull as it
"disappears" against the background of the trees) and does have a greenish
look where it is supporting a colony of algae, but it seems to have not lost
any of its strength. Its rated at about 1500pounds I think. I do use draw
rope for a light-weight mast but replace it regularly. Unfortunately my old
salt mine doesnt have a stores any more....we were able to make a personal
purchases of rate-book items.
