Dear LF Group, My fishing poles are also black, but proved to be good insulators, with the wire attached directly to the poles without requiring any additional insulation. I think carbon fibre poles would be a lot more expensive than the ones sold via the amateur radio retailers. Maybe the black paint was conducting, I don't know. I wanted them as conducting elements anyway so it was not important. 73 Peter |
