I have simulated the mini whip with PSpice, and the results are quite good.
In the schematic below, the V3 source and the 10pF capacitor simulate
the whip itself. Total current from the power supply is abt 50mA, of which
38 flow in the 2N5109 and 12 in the J310.

The Bode plot shows the frequency response of the output referred to
the V3 source signal. The vertical scale are dB. The second Bode plot is
just the LF section expanded.

I have one almost built and in the next days it will find its way toward
a chimney on my roof...
