Ok about KN.
But in QRSS or DFCW mode you don't have to waste time and wait for a QSO to end before calling one of the stations. Just move up or down a few Hz (or even less, depending on dotlength) from the QSO partner and give a call while the previous QSO is still going on. On of the nice things about QRSS is that you can monitor more that one signal at the same time.

        I often catch the end of a transmission and consequently cannot tell
whether the station is sending CQ or already in a QSO.
        I therefore have to wait several minutes to see whether the station
repeats a CQ before replying.

        Is there not a case for using KN if passing transmission to a
specific station, as in normal CW ?
        The additional time in sending the N is surely well worth removing
the ambiguity of the situation.
