Hi Alan,

thanks for the report. Well, to receive Johan's transmission on 3577 kHz I just relied on the accuracy of the TCXO of the JRC NRD-525 receiver... I did have in the past occasions to check that it is quite accurate, so the other evening I just tuned "blind" to 3576.5 kHz, USB, as this would place Johan's signal centered on 500 Hz. As said in a previous message, I had QRN on the order of S9, a continous raspy sound. No audible traces of SM6LKM. But then, looking at the waterfall window, I saw a sequence of lines that looked suspiciously as Jason tones. And this was confirmed by some decoded characters with unmistakable patterns... it was definitely Johan. The copy got better half an hour later, when band conditions changed a bit. Then sometimes I could swore to hear the tones, which disappeared in the QSB just a bit later. In my case, the copy was a bit better using the "Hendrix" mode.

I haven't even tried to receive John's WD2XES transmission, as my LF antenna at present is almost non existant. I have a CP666 FET somewhere, so maybe my next hardware project could be the building of the Amrad active E-field probe. A friend of mine has done it, and he reports that from Livorno (Leghorn) in Central Italy he is receiving Rugby at 60 kHz with a signal of S9+20 dB using that antenna...

Hi Alberto, I managed to get 3 complete call-signs from John's WD2XES last
night, despite unsettled conditions. The new software makes the listening
for a DX station "blind" a lot easier from my point of view. I set up my
synth signal generator on John's frequency with a small aerial (VHF helical
! ) to inject a signal into the LF antenna, set the Jason (0.98) Mode to
Fast and centred the line, switched to Normal and recentred the line, and
again for the Slow mode. This corrected all the errors in the soundcard and
the RX tuning and I was able to decode copy overnight "unattended", That was
"unHendrixed" too.
