Hi all, after a period of about a month of quiet conditions the Sun is
becoming active again. A large sun-spot rotated onto the visible disc, and
the X-ray background showed an appreciable increase. Then followed a series
of M-Class flares, the biggest being an M6.0 early on the 13th, followed by
a number of slightly smaller events. This morning (15th) at 0100 there was a
massive X1.8 flare. Propagation conditions will be affected by the Coronal
Mass Ejections (CME) emitted with these flares, the first sizable one ,from
the M6 is expected later today. The CME from the X1.8 will probably not
arrive until about Saturday 17th. Long distance night-time DX conditions
will probably deteriorate from Saturday night, and the effects could linger
for about 3 weeks. Watch the Dst index figures on my web page to judge the
state of the recovery.

As a bonus daytime conditions should be enhanced for a few days, probably
starting Sunday 18th.
