Hello everyone,

Bob ZL2CA and Sam RN6BN, PSE inform us
abt yours RX - TX setups under this beautiful
receptions.

Especially RN6BN, please provide some info about the TX output power,
antenna current, antenna height/length, expected ERP etc.

It is "only" ca. 1200km farther from SP5ZCC than from RN6BN to New Zealand.
Seeing such a good copy of a signal from UA, I am nearly sure that the same
or comparable transmitting equipment would give at least a trace in Argo in
ZL. I still remember that previous attempts from Western Europe have failed,
then "the border" must be somewhere in-between. SP5ZCC seems to be more or
less in the middle between RN6BN location and the UK:
SP5ZCC <> RN6BN = ca. 1514km
SP5ZCC <> M0BMU = ca. 1467km
RN6BN <> ZL2OL = ca. 16438km
SP5ZCC <> ZL2OL = ca. 17672km
M0BMU <> ZL2OL = ca. 18790km
Looking at the globe, the shortest path changes quickly and gets more and
more over land when moving into the north-west of Europe... But,
surprisingly, the path from Greece, southern Spain and Portugal to New
Zealand is ca. 3/4 over the sea. Especially Portugal is interesting as the
path is very close to 20000km and is mostly over the sea in both directions.
Shortest paths on a sphere are not very intuitive hi.

Congratulations to RN6BN and ZL2OL, I think we're all waiting for a
successful reception of ZL signal in UA!

I have to take some holidays from work and raise the level of my poor setup
at ZCC by a few steps :) I am currently finishing a 1m^2 receiving loop -
during last activity in January I've been only copying the strongest
stations...

We have a problem at ZCC as our FT-990's reference oscillator stability
degraded heavily with no reason - hard to work even normal CW as it happens
to jump by 300-400 Hz (with no change on the display) and then slowly gets
back to the original QRG. Strange - I suspect the reference quartz is broken
and I am considering buying the TCXO-2. But first we let someone with better
mesuring equipment to have a look at it. Do you think the master reference
or rather the synthesis circuit is broken? Did anyone have a similar
problem? Anyway - until this is solved I am not able to work any QRSS as it
used to be the signal source and receiver for LF :(

73! Marek SQ5BPM
