Hi John that sounds like it could be one of the irregular fire-ups to
dissuade
the spiders and mice from taking up too permanent an abode in the tuning
coils.
I think it will have gone off again now. There is no sign of it here even on
3 sec ARGO. In the past two years it has been fired up occasionally for
about
a couple of hours. It did run about this time last year for about two days
before going off again. It sounds like the old 82Hz shift FSK from what you
describe. This is an indication of what the German stations have to contend
with over here from DCF39 (which is 3dB stronger)

Brian has a monitoring slot on his real time display which is devoted to
CFH. (bright yellow I think)
