Hi all,
ZL6QH will be sending LF beacon transmissions overnight (New Zealand time)
on 27, 28 and 29 December.
Transmission will start about 0720 UTC (ZL6QH sunset is nominally 0752 UTC)
and end about 1730 UTC (ZL6QH sunrise is nominally 1655 UTC).
A new DDS exciter constructed by Andrew ZL2BBJ will be tried this time, with
long dot FSK beacon format very similar to that used previously for ZL6QH
beacon tests. The identifier QQQQ.... is sent as hi/hi/lo/high/gap ....
with 120 second dot length for each element. The DDS frequency shift is
0.424 Hz, so transmitted frequencies are (rounded to 0.1 Hz):
hi = 137.7891 kHz
lo = 137.7887 kHz
Each Q takes 10 minutes, so there are conveniently six Qs per hour. To
assist with weak signal identification the timing will be arranged so that
the first element of a Q starts on the hour. The DDS exciter is confirmed
to have accurate timing.
There is no email access at the remote Quartz Hill station, but there will
be daily trips to Wellington, so private and reflector email can be read.
If there are particularly good beacon results for Friday, we will be happy
to make skeds for attempted two-way DX contacts using Jason. Any change to
the ZL6QH schedule will be posted to the RSGB reflector site.
Good luck,
Bob ZL2CA
