Hard clipping will not increase bandwidth if one has indeed made the phase shift continuous by that point in the circuit. In fact, it will be a necessity. AGC could not be made fast enough to remove the amplitude variations, and if they are not removed, a practical power amplifier following the high-Q circuitry would tend to reintroduce extraneous sidebands.
