From all accounts, the operation from Puckeridge has been an
outstanding success. A great deal of measurement data has been
collected and a considerable amount of interest in the LF bands has
been generated from many stations not currently involved with these
bands. I am sure that the whole story will evolve in the fullness of
time but I am sure many of you would like to join me in thanking
those operators who put so much time and effort into the whole operation.
I worked to Puckeridge station on 72 and 137kHz on Friday and the
signal strengths recorded here were
S9 on 72kHz
S9 plus 25dB on 137kHz
Measured on a TS-850s on 500Hz bandwidth with AIP and attenuation
awitched out (AIP and some attenuation is normally in to reduce the
effects of Loran)
On the Selective level meter at 20Hz bandwidth the dBm measurements were
-74dBm on 72kHz
-65dBm on 137kHz
As regards the reported key clicks I was unaware of them at the time
of measurement. By this I mean that I was unaware of the presence of
the Puckeridge station until I was tuned on to it.
In particular I feel that we should give a vote of thanks to Walter,
G3JKV, for his liason work Racal/Decca and making the whole
operationt possible.
