In case someone else is interested, let me refer to the
doctoral thesis of Peter, SM7CMY with a title:
'Signal Detection in Noise with special reference to
telegraphy', University Hospital Lund, Sweden, 1994.

It was Peter, DF3LP, who first mentioned this document on the reflector and
with the help of
PE1AIO, who works at the Leyden University, I was able to obtain copy. But
it took many months before it arrived..

It is very interesting and describes a series of tests, conducted with the
help of
experienced radio amateurs, with purpose to find out how several factors -
like signal to
noise ratio, sending speed, frequency of the audio note etc. - affect
detection and recognition of morse code signals. Also electronic morse
decoders were tested. But radio technical aspects are not covered.

The thesis has the code ISRN LUMEDW/MERL -- 1038 -- SE

Thanks to Peter for the tip.
